LOCAL 6TH FORMERS BENEFIT FROM PUBLIC SPEAKING TRAINING
Mike Leam, head of sixth form at Edgbarrow School in Crowthorne
recently reported an increase in confidence in his students
after they undertook public speaking training with PeopleTrack,
the Bracknell based sales and management training company.
This was set up in conjunction with the Bracknell Education
Business Partnership and over a 2-month period PeopleTrack
delivered 2 programmes of training and coaching for a total
of 20 students. Walter Blackburn, the founder of PeopleTrack,
said that his company were pleased to be able to contribute
their time and talent at no cost to the school because public
speaking is likely to be so important for the future success
of the students whatever they do.
The programmes were based on the ‘commercial’ programme
that PeopleTrack offer which was redesigned to make it fun
and especially interactive for the students. They were shown
how to speak powerfully and effectively about their experiences – their
successes as well as the lessons they had learned from life
so far. Two experienced public speaking trainers coached
the students through 6 talks in total and each left the programme
with an individual video tape of the talks that they had
made as well as the feedback from the coaches and their peers.
They took away the knowledge that they could make a successful
presentation together with practical tips that they could
use in their future presentations at university, work and
life in general.
