"2 year Management Programme run successfully across Europe involving 147, mainly first line, managers and team leaders. The company had recognised that with the strong competition for 'good' people in the software development business, it was crucial for Sun to have good management practice at all levels. It was particularly concerned to give first line management the 'principles and practice' of management."

Empathy Management
The programme is presented over two sessions to allow participants to gain valuable insights into what makes their people "tick".
Managers with good people skills seem to understand through intuition, experience and training that people are different in the way they see the world. They therefore, need to be managed differently. Inexperienced managers might say life would be a lot easier in a world where people always act rationally and made decisions based on information and logic. However, in the real world, emotions play an important part in how we look at things, how we deal with issues and how we relate to other people.
The two or three dominant desires of most people are hidden. However, the ways we talk, dress, buy, choose our employers and employees, and treat other people, provide significant clues. By gaining insight and adjusting our behaviour accordingly, we can dramatically affect our own people skills. We can also improve the performance of our staff, and how we communicate with our peers and superiors.
OBJECTIVES:
For managers to:
- learn how to assess different individuals' temperaments
- uncover the hidden motivating desires of team members
- discover why different people react to different work environments and reduce frustration
- acquire the skills of handling different types of people in situations of praise, criticism and seeking co-operation
- analyse their own management style and understand their strengths and weaknesses

"The first surprise was how the senior managers were incredibly frank and open, not least about their weaknesses. We learned to appreciate each others' strengths more and are still benefiting from the training eighteen months on."
Andrew Franklin - Director, Kawasaki Motors (UK) Ltd.
