How the Empathy Approach can improve your
people management, sales and profits
The Empathy Approach
is an easy-to-learn system for understanding ‘what makes
people tick’. Your managers can use it to get the best
out of their teams – and your sales force can use it
to win more business.
It will help you and your colleagues to:
- Quickly form rapport with people
(even the challenging ones!)
- Communicate with team members and customers
more effectively
- Achieve better results
There are seven
desires which account for most of our emotional decisions.
If we know which particular desires are strong in a person,
then we can begin to predict how they will react in a given
situation.
If we can predict how someone will react, or what decisions
they will take, then we can manage them, or sell to them,
more effectively. This is because we can adopt the best communication
strategy for that person.
With the Empathy Approach, you do not need to give a person
a questionnaire to discover their personality profile. You
simply observe their behaviour and environment - and listen
to what they say and how they say it. Sometimes you can instantly
spot two or more strong desires. These desires relate to
the seven styles of temperament, which are:
Typically adults
will have between two and four of these styles as dominant.
So, for example, Sir Richard Branson is likely to have Artist,
Mover, Hustler and Politician as dominant styles. But not
everyone will have four styles as dominant - for example,
Isambard Kingdom Brunel - builder of the Great Western Railway,
the SS Great Britain and the Bristol Suspension Bridge - probably
had Politician and Engineer as dominant styles - this would
have given him the drive to complete some incredibly inspired
projects.
Our clients tell
us that they really enjoy learning how
these styles work (both in themselves and their colleagues!).
In a remarkably short time, they can spot dominant Empathy
styles in other people.
They then typically experience a significant leap forward
in their people skills.
